Welcome to the Rising Voices Choir Community!

Hello and a heartfelt welcome to members and newcomers alike! Whether you’ve joined us as a singer, listener, or supporter, this is your space to connect—through music, story, and shared harmonies. Rising Voices is more than a choir; it’s a welcoming community where musical expression, confidence, and friendship flourish.

1. Singing for Well-Being & Community

Singing together taps into more than just melody; it's a joyful way to release stress, connect emotionally, and foster behavioral wellness. Learning songs by ear in four-part harmony invites presence, listening, and shared humanity—moving us beyond rehearsal into a form of mindful expression.

Discussion Prompt:Have you ever felt your mood shift during choir rehearsals or performances? What moment in the music lifted you most recently?

2. Keeping Musical Connection Alive—Digitally & Physically

While we primarily sing face-to-face, digital engagement helps us stay connected—especially between terms or during off weeks. Whether through virtual song sharing, social posts, or audio clips, these digital moments deepen our sense of connection and resilience as a group.

Prompt:What online calls, song videos, or rehearsal clips made you feel connected to the community recently—especially if you couldn’t attend in person?

3. Learning by Ear—Every Voice Counts

One of the most beautiful aspects of Rising Voices is that you don’t need to read music to participate. Songs are taught by ear, and arrangements are thoughtfully crafted to support harmony and success for every voice—no matter your experience level.

Prompt:What teaching style or learning moment helped boost your confidence (like ear-learning or group rehearsals)? What would you like more of in that style?

4. Sharing Our Music Locally & Lovingly

We frequently bring our voices to public spaces—from the Oxford Folk Festival and Blackwell's Bookshop to the Ashmolean and Story Museum. These performances are not just shows—they’re joyful acts of community and connection, rooted in public service and folk tradition.

Prompt:What past performance stands out to you—maybe a venue, song, or shared moment? What made it especially meaningful?

5. Creativity, Inclusion & Your Part in the Song

Rising Voices is about inclusive creativity—welcoming all vocal ranges, honoring different styles, and celebrating cultural roots through modern and traditional folk songs. Your voice matters, and we value the spectrum of people who bring rising harmony to Oxford.

Prompt:Do you have ideas—songs, themes, events—that would enrich the choir’s creative direction? Let’s start a thread of shared inspiration!

Weekly Reflection: What Sparked Your Voice This Week?

Share a moment—a lyric, a harmony line, or a community moment—that made you smile or feel heard. It might be a familiar four-part blend, a supportive comment from a singer, or a moment of voice alongside voices.

How to Join In:

  • Post photos or clips from rehearsals or performances

  • Encourage others with kind comments or smiley reactions

  • Suggest venues, songs, or local places for outreach performances

  • Ask questions—about voice parts, song styles, or fellowship

Together, we’re building more than notes—we’re building a heartwhole group. Whether you’re raising your voice in St Clement’s Centre or tuning it online, you’re part of a living choir that sings with warmth, tradition, and joy.

Thank you for being here. Let’s make music—and community—together.
